Attribution Guidance for Content and Data

Some of my content and datasets are made available for public use in support of open, transparent, and accountable digital practices.

To ensure appropriate credit and encourage responsible reuse, I ask that all use of my published material includes clear and visible attribution.

In general, I ask that:

  • My work is attributed to me, Jaz-Michael King
  • You agree to share any adaptations or derivative works under the same licence

Unless otherwise noted:

  • You may use or adapt my work for commercial purposes
  • You must release any adaptations under the same open licence

Licensing

Unless otherwise noted:

Why Attribution Matters

Attribution is more than a legal or licensing requirement. It:

  • Acknowledges the creator’s effort and encourages further open contributions
  • Supports transparency about where data or content originates
  • Fosters responsible reuse and ethical sharing

This guidance outlines how to correctly attribute my work.

When You Need to Attribute

Attribution is required any time you:

  • Use or include my published data or content in a public-facing product or work
  • Distribute materials that derive from or incorporate my original content
  • Display maps, datasets, documents, or other outputs based on my work

Attribution is not necessary for purely internal use that is not shared or distributed.

How to Attribute

The following example attributions can be cut and pasted:

If the licence varies or is more specific, please refer to any licence notice provided alongside the content or dataset.

Placement and Presentation

  • Attribution should be shown wherever the content or data is used
  • Attribution must be legible and distinguishable, following accessibility best practices
  • Attribution should not be presented in a way that confuses the origin or misleads users

Where appropriate, make the text or a portion of it clickable, linking to https://jaz.co.uk/copyright or to the applicable licence.
